Frequently asked questions

Why are images I save from websites WebP files?

Many websites serve their images as WebP because the files are smaller than JPG or PNG and load faster. Browsers show them, but some apps, image editors and upload forms do not accept WebP. Converting to JPG makes the image open almost anywhere.

Does converting to JPG lower the quality?

JPG compresses the image, so a little detail is lost, though at the High setting the difference is rarely visible. For logos, screenshots and images with a transparent background, convert to PNG instead: PNG keeps every pixel, while JPG turns transparent areas white.

How many files can I convert at once?

The site sets no limit on the number of files, but how many you can convert depends on your device's memory and speed. Files are processed one at a time and stay in your device's memory until you download them. Large batches or very large images may fail, especially on phones. If that happens, convert them in smaller groups.

Is the image file information kept?

No. Converting to JPG converts only the image: information such as the date, camera equipment and location is not carried over to the new file.

Are my files uploaded to an outside server?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device. The page only downloads the tool's own code when you add the first file.
