File tools

Rename files in bulk, fix garbled ZIP file names.

About these tools

Each tool runs in your browser: your files are processed on your device and never uploaded to an outside server.

Bulk Rename Files gives many files new names at once: numbers, replaced text, a prefix or suffix, or the date a photo was taken. You see every new name before you download the renamed copies as a ZIP file.

Fix ZIP File Names rewrites the names in a ZIP as UTF-8, so a ZIP made on Windows opens with the right names on a Mac, and the other way round. The files inside are untouched.

Frequently asked questions

Does renaming change my original files?

No. The tool gives you renamed copies in a ZIP file, and your original files keep their names.

What kinds of files can I rename?

Any kind: photos, videos, PDFs, documents and more. Only naming files by the date taken needs photos that carry that date in their EXIF information.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Your browser reads the files on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server.

Why are the names in a ZIP garbled on another computer?

Windows stores names in its language's code page without marking it, and Macs store UTF-8 without the mark. Fix ZIP File Names writes every name as marked UTF-8, which both read.
