How to use
- Choose how to save: PNG or WebP keeps the background transparent (WebP is smaller but slightly lossy), and JPG lays the cut-out on white, black or a colour you choose.
- Click “Choose files” or drop photos onto the box. JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF and BMP start right away.
- Check each cut-out, then download it, or all of them as a ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
Which photos does it work on?
It is made for photos of people and also works on many photos of pets. Hair, fur, see-through objects such as glass, shadows, and backgrounds close in colour to the subject may not come out cleanly, so check the result. Images without a person, such as screenshots, logos or photos of products alone, may come out almost empty or keep parts of the background.
Why does the first photo take longer?
The first time, your browser downloads the background removal model (about 30 MB). It stays in the browser’s cache, so later photos start right away, even offline. The model runs on your device’s processor: a 12-megapixel photo takes about 2 seconds on a laptop, and longer on phones. Keep this tab in front while it works.
Is my photo made smaller?
Only when it has more than about 16.7 million pixels (4096 × 4096), the largest image some browsers, such as Safari on iPhone, can hold. Such a photo, a 48-megapixel one for example, is shrunk to fit before its background is removed, and its result says so. Other photos keep their size.
Are the colours and orientation kept?
Yes. The photo is turned the way it was taken and its colours are kept; a HEIC photo’s colour profile goes into the saved image. Photo information such as the date and location is not carried over.
Are my files uploaded to an outside server?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device. The page only downloads the tool's own code when you add the first file.
