Frequently asked questions

Can the watermark be removed?

Yes, with a PDF editor: the watermark goes into the PDF as one image laid over each page. It marks a document as confidential or shows where a copy came from; it does not stop anyone from changing or sharing the file.

Can I watermark a digitally signed PDF?

Yes, but its digital signature will no longer be valid, because adding the watermark rewrites the PDF. If the PDF is signed, you are asked before it is saved. A watermark or an image laid over a page is not a digital signature (one made with a certificate) either.

Can the watermark be in Japanese, Korean or Chinese?

Yes. The text is drawn as an image in your device’s own fonts and then laid over the pages, so any language works. The watermark text therefore cannot be selected or searched, and the typeface varies a little between devices. The PDF’s own text stays selectable and searchable.

Can I watermark a password-protected PDF?

No. PDFs with a password are not supported, including those that only restrict printing or copying: rewriting them would remove the protection. Remove the password in your PDF app first, then watermark that copy.

Are my files uploaded to an outside server?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device. The page only downloads the tool's own code when you add the first file.
