Frequently asked questions

How do I type the page ranges?

Separate the files with commas and write each as its first and last page: 1-3, 4-6 makes two PDFs, one with pages 1 to 3 and one with pages 4 to 6. A single number makes a one-page file, 8- runs to the last page, and a page may go into more than one file.

What happens to bookmarks, links and form fields?

Each file keeps the links and form fields on its own pages; a link to a page that went into another file no longer leads anywhere. Bookmarks and the original’s title and author are not carried over, and nothing of the pages you did not choose is left in a file.

Can I split confidential documents?

Yes. Your browser reads the PDF and writes the new files on your device. Neither the PDF nor the files are uploaded, so contracts, invoices and other confidential documents stay on your device.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

No. PDFs with a password are not supported, including those that only restrict printing or copying: rewriting them would remove the protection. Remove the password in your PDF app first, then split that copy.

Are my files uploaded to an outside server?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device. The page only downloads the tool's own code when you add the first file.
