How to use
- Click “Choose file” or drop your PDF onto the box. You will see whether it has a password.
- Type the password that opens the PDF. For a PDF that only restricts printing or copying, type its owner password.
- Press “Remove password and save” and download the PDF, which now opens without a password. Everything happens on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Can I unlock a PDF whose password I forgot?
No. This tool only removes a password you know; it does not guess or crack passwords. A PDF whose password is lost cannot be opened here either, so ask whoever sent it, and keep a note of the passwords you set.
What about a PDF that opens but cannot be printed or copied?
Such a PDF has no password to open it, only an owner password (also called a permissions password) that restricts printing, copying or editing. Enter that owner password to save a copy without the restrictions. Without it, the restrictions stay.
Is my password sent anywhere?
No. The PDF and the password are processed in your browser and never sent to a server. The password is not recorded in analytics, in the address of the page or in the browser’s storage, and it is cleared once the PDF is unlocked.
Can I unlock a digitally signed PDF?
Yes, but its digital signature will no longer be valid, because removing the password rewrites the PDF. If the PDF is signed, you are asked before it is saved.
Are my files uploaded to an outside server?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device. The page only downloads the tool's own code when you add the first file.
