Convert PowerPoint to Markdown

Turn a PowerPoint deck into Markdown to paste into ChatGPT, Claude, a wiki or a README. Each slide becomes a heading with its text, bullets, tables and pictures, and the file stays on your device.

or drop them here

Files are processed on your device and never sent to an outside server.

How to use

  1. For PowerPoint, choose whether the speaker notes are included; they are by default.
  2. Click “Choose files” or drop your PowerPoint files (.pptx) onto the box. You can add several at once.
  3. Each file is converted to Markdown on your device as soon as it is added. Check the text, copy it, or save it as a .md file. A document with pictures is saved as a ZIP of the .md file and its pictures; several documents are saved together in one ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

How is a presentation converted?

Each slide becomes a heading, “Slide 3: Title”, numbered in presentation order; hidden slides are included and marked. Below it come the slide's text boxes from top to bottom (left to right at the same height): bullet points with their levels, numbered lists, bold, italic and links, tables, and pictures saved under images/. Speaker notes follow each slide as a quote, which you can turn off above the box.

What is left out?

Shapes without text, charts, SmartArt, embedded objects, animations, transitions, the slide layout and design, fonts and colours, and the slide number, date and footer placeholders. The result lists what was left out.

Which files can I convert?

.pptx, .pptm, .potx, .potm, .ppsx, .ppsm files: the current PowerPoint format, with or without macros, and templates. Macros are not run. The older .ppt format and password-protected files are not supported: open them in PowerPoint and save them as .pptx without a password first.

What happens to the pictures in the document?

They are saved in their original format in an images folder next to the Markdown, which links to them as images/image1.png and so on. The two are downloaded together as a ZIP file. Text inside pictures is not read; use Image to Text for that.

Are my files uploaded to an outside server?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device. The page only downloads the tool's own code when you add the first file.
